Volunteers needed for innovative research project:
(this study is now completed – see below)
If you are a professional string player and you are suffering regularly from musculoskeletal conditions like pain, numbness, tingling, etc. when playing, then you are hereby invited to participate in this study:
“THE EFFECT OF IMPROVED MUSCULAR ENDURANCE ON PLAYING RELATED MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS IN PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRAL STRING PLAYERS.”
This is a 6-week randomised intervention study which involves a simple muscular endurance test of the upper body (no cardio) and a training intervention with the goal of improving said muscular endurance. The aim is to evaluate the effect of this type of training on playing related muscular disorders.
Your participation in this study is voluntary, free of charge, and all data and test results are kept confidential. You can opt out at any time. If you decide to participate you will randomly be assigned to either the intervention or the control group. Only the intervention group will take part in 3 weekly guided 30-minute-long training sessions (via ZOOM). Both groups will take part in the pre- and post-test (via ZOOM). All participants will receive a short form report with the results and main findings of the study. The long form article will be submitted to St Mary’s University and a modified version is planned to be published in the Journal of Medical Problems of Performing Artists. This project was approved by the institutional board of St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London.
The start of this study is planned to be during the week of the 30st of January 2023 and will be 6 weeks long. If you are interested in participating in this innovative research project, please get in touch via the contact details or follow the link to my participant recruitment questionnaire. For even more details, please refer to the full research proposal on my blog here…
I’m looking forward to meeting you!
